Soya wax is usually used to outline: a thin line holding colour in place. In this tutorial we use it at different stages as a building medium instead.
Rather than drawing edges, we block in shapes directly on already scrunched and coloured silk, letting the wax itself become part of the design. Working in shades of green across two stages, each layer of wax changes what the next layer of dye can reach.
The geometry isn't planned in advance. Shape by shape, areas are held back and colour is layered in around them — and by the end, the green isn't just applied. It's held.
